Hello Lost Friend

Well, not really lost friend, more like friend who was hiding in the back of my mind, but everytime or schedules just didnt mesh up. But alas, I have found enough spare time to come say hello!

I have been quite the busy beaver lately. Last month I became a proud member of the Queer Etsy Street Team!
Since I became a member, I have fallen in love with the group and the people. We have a Team Shop, where all 100% of the profits go towards the Trevor Project. The Trevor Project is the leading national organization focused on crisis and suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) youth. You can check out the team shop here! And if you are looking for another blog to add to your collection, here is our blog

To keep things interesting within the team, we are doing monthly these monthly challenges. It only seemed fitting to tie the challenge to what are team stands for. Starting at the beginning of this month, we have decided to do monthly color schemes. For 6 months we are going to do each color of the rainbow. This month was red, so next month with be orange! And as a matter of fact, I just finished my orange themed items, so you get to have the sneak preview of what I made!!
Don't you feel special?

From this color challenge, I have come to discover that I LOVE orange and natural hemp, it just has this pop to it that just looks so niffy. I hope you like it as much as i do. I particularly love the headband...and the necklaces and the bracelets, lol, but really I do love the headband the most.

In addition to the Queer Team, I have also recently joined the 420 Crafters, We are a brand new team and we are still getting out feet in the water. I will tell you more about them next time, but to tide you over here is our blog, enjoy!

That is all for now!
Off to list some of those items and explore the internets!

I Heart Creative People

I have recently become very motivated because of my wonderful friends and family. With their imput and support I've been able to totally expand on Hemphelpers. I'm now listing a few samples of my recent creations, so I have more than just really sweet hemp necklaces with roach clips. And I'll be continuing to try my hand at more creative outlets!

In fact this whole HempHelpers idea wouldn't have happened with out the help of my friends. My best pal started it all. She was the first to interduce me to hempworking. We bounce ideas off eachother and colloaborated to make hemp jewelry and accessories to take to summer festivals. In no time we were working great together and poppin out some bad ass stuff. Six months later, we enjoyed ourselves at an amazing music festival and had great success with our hemp stuff. We didn't make a lot of money, but we didn't care. People loved our work, it was a hit.Soon after that I opened my shop on etsy, I couldn't figure out a great name, until my neighbor, who it the best around, came up with the perfect name, HempHelpers! I loved it and it stuck.

I've had pretty great success on Etsy s far, I've been inspired by so many of the other artists on there. Now I'm dabbling in many art forms. In fact today I spent the day with my girlfriend tye dyeing clothes to start selling too. When we wash them I'll be sure to give yall a sneak peak!

Unfortunaltey I haven't been able to put up everything I've made so far, but luckily I have my very first craft show next weekend :)
It's in Cadillac MI, I'm totally pumped for it!
Oh and If you are in the Big Rapids area, the annual Mock Beauty/Drag Show is next wednesday, I'll be there too selling some spunky rainbow hemp gear. I'll be donating 60% of the profits to the group too, so come out and support them for a great cause!

Oh I finally got rechargable batteries so next update I'll be able to give you guys a peak at some of my new stuff!!
That's all for now!

Antique Gold Mine

I've had quite the spring break this year.
The weather has been beautiful, the break from school was great, the time alone with H was wonderful, and I got to go antiquing.

I haven't been able to just puruse around an antique store in years, but last week I got to go to 2 great shops with 2 of my favorite ladies.

One of the shops we went to was called "Treasures" and boy did I find some good treasures there.
My favorite purchase was this nifty spice rack. It had cute little doors and two drawers, and 12 glass bottles.
(I'll update this post later with some pics, once I get some batteries for the camera.)
UPDATE, I've got pictures!

I'm super pumped about the glass bottles, they each have great airtight seals and are made out of simple clear glass. Exactly what I need for my next set of products for the shop, decorated storage jars. Perfect for keeping things stored and fresh!

In fact, I'm about to head off to find some inspiration and start creating. Be sure to check out the shop over the next week or two to see the designs!

Small Batch of New Pictures

I managed to find a pair of batteries for Heather's camera, yay. So I took some pictures, though I only got a few of my new necklaces before the batteries died. I think I'm going to invest in rechargable batteries to tide me over for now.

If you are already my fan on facebook, you've probably already seen some of these pictures, I'm sorry!

You can expect to find some of these already on etsy for purchase, and the rest will be put up periodically through out the week!

I actually just sold the rasta one with the peace sign (the second picture, top row), so hopefully I can use that money for those rechargeable battery sets.

That's all for now, Dante's on, so you know what that means..
Goodnight yall!

Need a New Camera!

I have been quite the busy bee lately.
School strated back up last month, so my craft time has taken a cut. But never fear, I've made some really sweet looking peices these last few weeks.

I would show you a sneak peak glimpse of them, but I don't have a camera right now. My poor camera took a dump about a year ago, and since then I've been using Heather's camera. Only problem is her camera eats batteries like it's going out of style! Which is has, because now I'm out of batteries. Lame Sauce!
So no camera right now, but soon I'll have a temporary fix. And who knows, maybe this summer I'll be able to afford a new camera.

So back being a busy bee....I did manage to post a few newish necklaces up on etsy. Most of these I made a few months back, but they got lost in the pile and I never put them up for sale, silly me. So now you have them up on my shop, I put up three new necklaces as of now.
A really popping blue and white piece, an earthy tree of life piece, and a large tribal style piece!

In the near future I hope to put up all of my newest necklaces, so far I've made 5 wicked sweet mushroom necklaces, 2 really awesome peace sign necklaces, 2 cutesy heart pendant necklaces, 1 that looks like a pot plant, 1 really awesome earthy choker (my super favorite at the moment), and 1 shell necklace that kind of reminds me of the Flintstones ( but that might be because I watched the movie the other day!)
So that's about 12 new necklaces, plus I have 4 or 5 other older necklaces that still haven't made it onto etsy.

You guys are going to be in for a treat once I get everything online!

Time to do what I do best!
And then probably off to make yet another new necklace of 2!

Need A Little Help From My Friends!

Hey Guys!

Sorry it's been a minute since my last update. I just started back up at school, so things have been a little hectic.
With that said, this should be a short entry!

So my birthday is coming up in a week and a half, and I've decided to give my customers a little present! Well not so much a present, but more so a sweet discount. My only problem is, I don't have a clue what to offer.

Right now I have a buy a necklace get a clipchain 50% off, and that goes through the rest of this month.
I'm thinking maybe for just the weekend of my birthday offering a percentage off the total order, like 23% (because that'll be my new age), or maybe just 50% off total order, or maybe 23$ off an order that totals 50$ or more. I'm just not sure, so I'm going to poll the audience :)

only...I don't know how to post a poll (can you tell I'm new at blogging lol!)

So I guess we will have to do this the old fashion way and post your opinion in a comment!
Or if you have facebook, you can check out my fan page and write your opinion in the discussion!
(here is the direct link to that discussion for your convenience Click Me! )

Oh and one last thing,
if you think you have a better idea for an offer, let me know! I love suggestions!
Your choices again are:
23% off any order
50% off any order
or $23 off any order of $50 or more

Thanks for your input!

Shameless Plug!!

So in addition to plugging my own store, periodically I'm going to surprise you with some of my favorite shops and items. I totally support small busniess, and besides there are some bombass things to be found on etsy.

The first shop I've decided to share to you is a special one.
It was just made yesterday, so it has some small construction going on . But it's sure to be a gem once it's up and running on both feet.

There is only one piece of art up at the moment, but give it some time, soon you'll get to see more and more of the collection!
[and it's a good collection, I'm doin' the artist, so I get to a sneak peak at her work :) ]

Here is a picture of the work she has listed, but you'll have to head to her shop if you want more details on her art!!

Thanks for checking it out!

Who says I can't be productive??

Whew what a productive last few days,

After a nice little holiday Heather and I made our way back home Saturday, and since then it's been busy busy.
Luckily most of it has been spent on craft time

Let's see what I have to share this time...

A little while back, enjoying a relaxing evening with some roommates, I came up with the sweetest idea (well I think so anyway)...Let me set the scene

It was either really late or really early, the music was flowing just right, the lights were dim, and the incense was burning. There was a slight draft, good ole campus apartments, causing the incense smoke to dance. Then the idea hit me, moving incense burner!

Brilliant right??
I still think so...

After months of dead ends (I'm not so keen with engineering and electrical things..so i tried my best to find someone who did), I turned to my dad. Within in like two months we had a prototype that I feel confident pretty confident about.
Over the last few days I spent some time making a few adjustments, but I'm pleased with it's look :)

It's sweet because not only does the incense rotate around, but get this, it sits in a glass bead I lampworked.

Oh, but wait there's more
*note: it sounds better if you read that in one of those cheesy infomercial voices...

It totally has room to stash things, like your lighter...
Got to love multifunctional things.

Sweet idea right?

I'm pretty pumped about it. Within the month I hope to have a few available at my etsy shop! So be sure to check it out, I may even have some different colors and designs available!

That's all I have for you today,
Time to light the incense and space out with the girl and the tv

Welcome!

Hello, Welcome to the OFFICIAL HempHelpers Blog!

Let me start by telling you a little history about HempHelpers

A few years ago I was introduced to the fabulous material, hemp.
I would look for cool jewelery made out of hemp, but my searches always fell flat. There were tons of really cool things made, but nothing that really reached me.
That was until I bought my first ball of hemp.
My best friend taught me how to make my own hemp necklace. I fell in love

January 2009, I made my very first hemp necklace and started my next big adventure.
Over the first few months, I would just make necklaces for friends. But it wasn't before too long that I decided I wanted to take my creations to music festivals and craft shows.

July 2009, At this point I have made over 100 necklaces, branklets, keychains, all with my special twist. My friends and I have decided to take the collection to Rothbury, the real test. I braced myself, being a newbie at selling my craft I didn't know what to expect. I was afraid that nobody would like my stuff, or that there would be hundreds of others selling hemp jewelery like mine. But I was excited too, boy was I excited.

After a crazy 4 days, I managed to sell or trade 40 items. Which was awesome, but not even the best part. The best part was that no other seller (that I found) had the same twist on their hemp crafts like I did, and everyone that checked out my stuff totally dug it.

A few weeks later I heard about etsy, started making my shop, and became hooked. Etsy is one of the most wonderful sites on the web, I highly recommend checking it out if you haven't already!

January 2010 It's been almost a year since my very first hemp neckace, and boy has time flown. My etsy shop is still a wee baby, but she's growing. And I'm learning new things about crafting everyday.
It's a new year and a new decade, perfect time to start living it up!

So that's how it all started. Now for the real fun to begin....but you'll have to wait til the next post!
